It was a big week in electric cars. The headline is a $28,350 Ford pickup that doubles as a home generator, but the week also brought a Rolls-Royce rival from BYD, a battery recall worth checking if there is an Audi in your driveway, and new numbers on who is actually selling electric cars in America. Every upcoming car below is also tracked in our guide to upcoming electric cars.

Ford says the Fathom will be the first EV from a US automaker priced under $30,000 that can power a home without a separate wall-mounted inverter. The inverter is built into the truck itself, so the hardware on your wall shrinks to a Ford Home Power Station and, for outages, a Home Backup Power Panel. Ford says those will cost about half and at least 60% less than its first-generation gear, and it projects more than 10 kW of output. Runtime, battery size and real prices are still to come. BYD names its Rolls-Royce rival: the Yangwang Altior

The coach-door limousine we have been following since September finally has a name. On October 27, Yangwang sales chief Hu Xiaoqing announced it will be called the Altior outside China and Dingyao at home, and BYD released a teaser of the car under a bronze sheet. Yangwang had already confirmed that the global debut will happen in the UAE, and CarNewsChina’s sources put it in Dubai around November 5. The teaser hints at a long hood, the “ding” front end from the U8 SUV and a roof-mounted lidar. Whether it carries BYD’s first solid-state battery is the big unanswered question. Audi recalls 9,048 Q4 e-trons and asks owners to charge to 80%

If you own a 2024 or 2025 Audi Q4 e-tron or Q4 Sportback e-tron, set your charge limit to 80%. Audi says charging above that could, in rare cases, let heat spread between cells and start a fire. It estimates about 0.1% of the 9,048 vehicles are affected and knows of no fires or injuries so far. Some cars will also need a battery check at a dealer. The final fix is still being developed, interim owner letters go out by December 18, and you can look up your VIN with NHTSA under campaign number 26V698. It is related to the ID.4 recall we covered on October 9. Sources: NHTSA, Motor1.
Audi will build its first US factory in Georgia

Audi says it will invest about $4 billion in its first US plant, at the Middle Georgia Mega Site in Peach County, near Macon. It plans to create about 4,500 jobs and build up to 200,000 premium SUVs a year for North American buyers. Construction starts in 2027, with production in the early 2030s. Audi illustrated the news with its new Q9, but it has not said whether the plant will build EVs, gas models or both. That is the detail we are watching. Source: Audi.
The 2027 Kia EV6 keeps its $37,900 price

Kia is carrying the EV6 into 2027 with no price changes at all. The lineup still starts at $37,900 for the Light Standard Range and runs to $53,000 for the GT-Line AWD, and the $1,545 destination fee is unchanged too. The EV6 is built in West Point, Georgia. Rivian is now America’s No. 2 EV brand
Cox Automotive’s third-quarter estimates put Rivian second only to Tesla, with 19,239 sales, up 45.7% from a year ago. That happened in a shrinking market: Americans bought 262,649 battery-electric cars in the quarter, down 39.5% from the same quarter in 2025, when buyers rushed to use the federal tax credit before it ended. Tesla still sold more than seven times as many cars as Rivian. Ford, at No. 8, is the brand to watch once the Fathom arrives. Source: Cox Automotive. Volvo cuts 2,500 jobs and promises a cheaper EV for Europe

Volvo’s fully electric cars made up 32% of its third-quarter sales, up from 22% a year earlier, but revenue fell about 23% and the company posted an operating loss of SEK 5.6 billion. It will cut about 2,500 jobs worldwide, roughly 2,000 in Sweden, through ended consultant contracts, attrition and exit packages. The plan forward is 13 new cars by the end of 2030, starting with three reveals in 2027. One of them is the next global EV, aimed at what Volvo calls a large, lower-priced segment in Europe, with first deliveries after summer 2027. Source: Volvo Cars.
Canada freezes its EV rules through 2029
Canada will hold its fleet greenhouse gas standard for new cars at 2026 levels, 172 grams per mile, through 2029. Tightening resumes with the 2030 model year, aimed at a new target of 75% EV sales by 2035. That replaces the old EV Availability Standard, a hard requirement for 100% zero-emission sales by 2035 that Ottawa is now repealing. The announcement came with $2.5 billion over two years for big auto projects. Automakers welcomed the predictability, while the Pembina Institute warned the 2035 goal is now close to impossible.
