The Definitive Guide to Upcoming Electric Cars (2026 to 2028)

This is our running list of every electric car that has been revealed, teased or confirmed but is not yet in most buyers’ hands. It covers 127 cars from 66 brands, and it does not stop at the US border: 35 of them come from China, and most of those will never be sold here. We included them anyway, because Chinese automakers are now setting the prices and charging speeds that everyone else has to answer.

What the list tells us

China has more cars on this list than anywhere else. 35 of the 127 cars on this list are Chinese, more than any other country, and they span everything from the Leapmotor A05 at about $9,400 to 1,000-horsepower supercars. Range claims above 900 km are now routine there, though China’s CLTC test cycle is the most generous in the world, so treat those numbers with caution.

Only 49 of the 127 are confirmed or likely for the US. Tariffs above 100 percent keep Chinese EVs out, several Japanese and American programs were cancelled or delayed in 2026, and many of Europe’s best new cars are small hatchbacks that were never planned for America. The US-bound list leans toward large SUVs, luxury cars and a new wave of cheap pickups.

The cheapest US-bound EVs coming are trucks. The lowest confirmed US prices on this list belong to the Slate Truck ($24,950) and the Ford Fathom ($28,350).

A lot of the big launches land in 2027. 45 of these cars are due in 2027, including BMW’s Neue Klasse sedan and SUVs, Mercedes’ electric C-Class and AMG models, Jaguar’s reborn GT and the first electric Bentley.

How we built this list

We started from every major automaker and every significant EV brand in the US, Europe, the UK, Japan, Korea, China, India and Vietnam, then checked each car’s current status against the automaker’s own newsroom and specialist outlets such as CnEVPost, Electrek, electrive and Autocar India. A car makes the list if it is a battery-electric production model (or has a confirmed production version) that was not yet delivering in its main market before July 2026. We mark the few range-extended EVs we include, because they replace cancelled battery-electric trucks and SUVs.

Every car carries a stage label. Just launched means deliveries started in the last few weeks. Revealed means the production car has been shown. Teased and Spied mean we have only official teasers or camouflaged prototypes. Concept and Confirmed mean the automaker has committed to the car but not shown the final version.

What we are still verifying

• Timing is the least reliable number on any list like this. Lucid’s Cosmos slipped to the second half of 2027 in August, and Toyota’s Highlander EV and Subaru’s Getaway were pushed to early 2027 in September. We update arrival dates as soon as automakers confirm them.
• Prices marked “est.” are our estimates or analyst forecasts, not official figures. Prices outside the US are converted to dollars for comparison only and do not reflect what a car would cost here.
• Range figures come from three different test cycles. The number on each car is the official figure on its own test. When you sort by range, we rank cars by a rough EPA equivalent (WLTP divided by 1.2, CLTC by 1.35), and each car’s detail view shows that estimate, labeled as ours. Treat it as a ballpark, because the gap varies from car to car. Our EV Range Chart does convert them, clearly labeled, for cars on sale.
• A handful of cars, such as the Porsche 718 Boxster Electric and Lucid Earth, have not been shown officially, so we show a drawn outline instead of a photo.

Will Chinese EVs like BYD and Xiaomi come to the US?

Not soon. US tariffs on Chinese-built EVs exceed 100 percent and federal rules restrict Chinese connected-car software. Several of these brands are expanding fast in Europe, Australia, Latin America and Southeast Asia instead, which is why we mark each car’s markets.
