2028 Bentley Torcal Revealed with 876 HP, and Porsche Electric Bones
Bentley has spent 107 years refining big-displacement internal combustion grand tourers, but the Crewe marque is finally joining the battery-electric era. Meet the 2028 Bentley Torcal, an electric SUV designed to go head-to-head with the Rolls-Royce Spectre and top-tier luxury haulers.
Revealed at Bentley headquarters and detailed by Car and Driver, the Torcal takes its name from Spain’s dramatic El Torcal de Antequera rock formation, continuing the geographic naming tradition started by the Bentayga.
When it reaches U.S. dealers early next year, it is slated to undercut the gas-powered Bentayga with a starting price just below $230,000.
Platform, Battery, and 400-kW Charging
Under the skin, the Torcal shares its core architecture and 119.0-inch wheelbase with the Porsche Cayenne Electric. That shared DNA brings some serious electric hardware:
- Battery Pack: A 108-kWh usable pack.
- 800-Volt Architecture: Native 800V layout equipped with a built-in NACS (North American Charging Standard) port for U.S. models.
- DC Fast-Charging: Capable of pulling up to 400 kW, delivering a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 16 minutes (or roughly 100 miles of range in seven minutes).
- Target Range: While official EPA ratings are still pending, early estimates point toward a real-world range of around 320 miles.
The Quickest Bentleys Ever Built
Rather than easing into electric performance, Bentley launched the Torcal with two dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations that easily eclipse any production combustion car the brand has ever assembled:
- Torcal (Standard): 810 hp and 881 lb-ft of torque, riding on standard 21-inch wheels with polished exterior brightwork.
- Torcal S: 876 hp and 996 lb-ft of torque, featuring blacked-out trim, standard 22-inch wheels, and an estimated 0-60 mph sprint of just 2.8 seconds.
To keep that mass disciplined through corners, every Torcal comes standard with rear-wheel steering and an active suspension setup using electrically driven hydraulic pumps to combat pitch and body roll.
Stopping power relies on massive brake assemblies, with an available carbon-silicon-carbide setup measuring 17.1 inches up front and 16.1 inches out back.
Aerodynamic Stance and Exterior Styling
Bentley abandoned its traditional round quad-headlight treatment in favor of slim, rectangular units that recall the Arnage. Up front, an illuminated diamond-pattern grille inspired by the Continental T closes off airflow, while the rear borrows heavily from the EXP 15 concept with muscular haunches, a steeply raked rear screen, and horizontal diamond-motif taillights. The Torcal is also the first road car to wear Bentley’s recently updated “Flying B” emblem.
Tactile Luxury Replaces Screen Clutter
Stretching over 16 feet long, the Torcal sits two inches lower than a Bentayga, giving it a longer, leaner silhouette with an elongated dash-to-axle ratio.
Inside, Bentley deliberately resisted the industry push to plaster the entire dashboard in digital glass. There is no front-passenger display; designers argued it cheapened the visual weight of the cabin materials.
Instead, the dashboard integrates a curved OLED main display sourced from the Cayenne Electric alongside physical, knurled metal switches and rotary dials. Other notable cabin features include:
- Sustainable Textiles: The automotive debut of 100% durable merino wool upholstery alongside traditional leather options.
- Audio & Atmosphere: A 28-speaker Naim sound system, ambient lighting mapped into the veneer, and Bentley’s first electrochromic, dimmable glass panoramic sunroof that actually opens.
- Seating & Utility: 16-way massaging front seats and a power-folding three-passenger rear bench (a first for the brand).
- Acoustic Signature: Rather than synthesizing a fake twin-turbo V8 or a generic spaceship hum, Bentley engineered an exterior and interior audio profile based on acoustic drum patterns and organic field recordings that pulse with motor load.
