We don’t imagine too many of you are going to be overly excited by the debut of the Lexus ES electric. Long known as a car for decently-heeled silver haired drivers, the ES is reliable and reliably boring. And maybe that’s okay?

Lexus Launches Electric ES Sedan With 300+ Miles of Range Starting Under $50K
Lexus has officially launched the 2026 ES, and for the first time the long-running midsize luxury sedan is available as a fully electric vehicle. It’s not the most exciting EV debut of the year, but it may end up being one of the most sensible.

The entry-level ES 350e Premium starts at $48,795 including destination, making it the least expensive version of the entire ES lineup. That’s right, the electric version is actually about $2,200 cheaper than the hybrid, which begins at $50,995.

The front-wheel-drive ES 350e delivers an EPA-estimated 307 miles of range with 19-inch wheels, or about 292 miles with the larger 21-inch wheels. Not record-breaking numbers, but comfortably competitive for a midsize electric sedan.

There’s also a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version called the ES 500e. That model produces about 338 horsepower and starts at $51,795, though range drops slightly to somewhere between 250 and 276 miles depending on wheel size.
Inside, Lexus sticks to what it does best: calm, comfortable, and well equipped. The redesigned ES includes a 14-inch infotainment screen, a 12.3-inch digital driver display, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Charging is modernized too. The ES EV includes a built-in NACS port, giving drivers access to Tesla’s Supercharger network. Lexus says the battery can go from 10 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes under ideal conditions.
In a world where EV announcements increasingly involve wild horsepower figures and spaceship interiors, the electric ES feels refreshingly normal. It’s quiet, practical, reasonably priced, and almost certainly engineered to run forever. In other words, it’s a Lexus. ⚡🚗
