Renault’s Wild Surf Buggy EV Is the Most Fun Electric Car We’ve Seen All Year

Renault just built the electric beach buggy of our dreams, and unfortunately, it’s still just a concept.

Meet the Renault 4 JP4x4: a delightfully weird, surf-ready EV that looks like a vintage beach cruiser collided with a modern crossover and immediately booked a weekend in Biarritz.

Based on the new Renault 4 E-Tech, the JP4x4 chops the practical five-door into a playful open-air two-door complete with half doors, no side glass, and a roof rack seemingly engineered around a single mission: carrying a surfboard in style.

And yes, it’s actually AWD.

Renault added a second electric motor to the rear axle, lifted the suspension, widened the stance, and wrapped the whole thing in emerald green paint with an outrageously orange interior that feels somewhere between “1970s French Riviera” and “outdoor furniture catalog.”

There are skateboard storage cubbies, a pickup-style tailgate, and enough retro charm to make a Fiat Jolly blush.

Officially, Renault says there are no production plans. Which probably means the internet will spend the next six months begging for one anyway.

Because honestly? In a world drowning in identical electric SUVs, this thing feels like a reminder that EVs can still be fun, weird, and unapologetically joyful. (MotorTrend)
