Toyota’s Iconic Highlander Transforms into a Family-Friendly Electric SUV for 2027

Toyota is reimagining one of its most familiar nameplates for the electric age. For the 2027 model year, the Toyota Highlander — long known as a dependable three-row family SUV — will return as an all-electric seven-seat vehicle, marking a major milestone for the brand’s EV lineup.

The 2027 Highlander shifts completely away from gasoline and hybrid powertrains, embracing battery electric propulsion with a choice of two battery pack sizes and available front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Toyota estimates up to about 320 miles of range on the larger pack, with fast-charging capability that can replenish a substantial charge in roughly 30 minutes on DC stations.

Inside, Toyota’s latest tech upgrades include a large touchscreen, premium connectivity, and advanced driver-assistance systems — all wrapped in a more modern cabin designed to make long trips with family or friends comfortable and practical.

Built in the U.S. at Toyota’s Kentucky assembly plant with battery modules from its new North Carolina facility, this Highlander represents Toyota’s push to bring mainstream family utility into the EV era without sacrificing space or versatility.

While Toyota hasn’t announced pricing yet, the 2027 Highlander EV is expected to compete directly with other three-row electric SUVs on the market, offering a compelling blend of range, size, and everyday usability for electric-minded drivers.
