When design legends collide, sparks fly. The latest collaboration between Pentagram, Deus Ex Machina, and MINI has produced two striking John Cooper Works prototypes — part racing icon, part design experiment.
Pentagram’s Matt Willey and Piotr Woronkowicz started with a custom livery for a classic Mini Cooper S. That visual idea snowballed into full prototypes, merging motorsport grit with cultural flair.
- Machina (F66) is a combustion-powered nod to rally heritage, with widened fenders, raw aluminum details, and classic rally lights.
- Skeg (J01) is the futuristic counterpoint — a true EV inspired by surf culture, featuring translucent fiberglass panels and integrated board straps.
Together, they show how design can move beyond surface graphics into the very DNA of the machine. One celebrates the roar of the past, the other whispers of a quiet, electric future.
