The 2027 Slate Truck is poised to disrupt the electric vehicle market by offering a minimalist, affordable, and highly customizable pickup that challenges the industry’s status quo.
But with all of the customization possible, should it be called the Blank Slate?

Radical Simplicity Meets Affordability
Priced at approximately $25,000 before federal incentives—and potentially under $20,000 after tax credits—the Slate Truck undercuts competitors like the Ford Maverick and Nissan Leaf, making it the most affordable EV pickup in the U.S. This aggressive pricing is achieved by eliminating non-essential features: no power windows, no touchscreen, and a single gray color molded into durable composite panels.
Designed for the DIY Enthusiast
Slate Auto emphasizes owner customization, offering over 100 accessories that allow buyers to tailor the vehicle to their needs. Options range from power window kits to full SUV conversion packages, enabling transformations from a two-seat pickup to a five-passenger SUV. These modifications can be installed by the owner or through Slate’s service network, fostering a sense of ownership and personalization.

Practical Performance
The base model features a 52.7 kWh battery providing an estimated 150-mile range, with an optional 84.3 kWh battery extending range to 240 miles. A 201-horsepower rear-wheel-drive motor delivers sufficient power for daily tasks, while the vehicle’s compact dimensions and 1,430-pound payload capacity make it suitable for urban environments and light-duty work.

A New Approach to EV Ownership
By stripping away non-essential features and focusing on affordability and customization, the Slate Truck appeals to a new generation of EV buyers seeking practicality over luxury. Its design challenges traditional automotive norms, offering a “blank slate” for owners to create a vehicle that fits their unique lifestyles.
Reservations for the Slate Truck are now open with a refundable $50 deposit, and production is slated to begin in late 2026 at a U.S.-based facility.
